Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is mobile grooming and The Rolling Spaw? It is a professional, self-contained bus that arrives at your door to take care of your pet's grooming needs. Mobile pet grooming is preferred by most of today's busy pet owners. The convenience for you and the exclusive attention for your pet make it desirable luxury service. We have both warm fresh water and grey water tanks on board and an inverter system that provides for all of my electrical needs. The unit is warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. Our mobile salon is completely equipped to afford your pet the utmost in first-class comfort and service.
Why does mobile grooming cost more than a regular grooming salon? We come to you! Your dog has one on one attention without the stress from being caged, and you do not have to make 2 trips to the salon. Mobile grooming allows the groomer to have a one-on-one grooming session with your pet, with our undivided attention. All pets are hand dried which allows us to groom your pet in a more time efficient manner without having to "cage-dry" your pet while grooming another. Most salons typically charge $20 more for this "fast" or "express" service. Plus I only use high quality, premium shampoos and products. The Rolling Spaw is all-inclusive, where most salons add-in the cost of premium shampoos, nail filing and de-shed treatments which will add an additional $20 to the base price of your groom. When you add up the time spent grooming, premium shampoo/products, extra services and the fact that you are also saving on gas and convenience...you can see that mobile grooming will have you coming out on top!
Do I need to be home? No! We all live busy lives and The Rolling Spaw is all about convenience. For the first visit I request that you are available. This way we can get to know each other and your pet gets to know me. After the initial visit you will not need to be home. We can make arrangements for entry into the home/yard (spare key, hide-a-key, garage code, unlocked gate) during initial visit. The best thing about this service...you will come home to a clean, groomed, happy pet!
How long does the grooming take? Typically anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours. Times are based on the size of the pet, coat condition, hair length, etc. (very hairy, matted or large dogs understandably take longer)
Why do we give an arrival window? We ask for a 30 minute window for appointment times do to unforeseen circumstances. We will arrive as close to the scheduled appointment time as possible, however, sometimes situations occur that will disrupt the daily schedule of the groomer. At The Rolling Spaw we will never compromise a pets safety by rushing to meet a schedule. An older, younger or difficult pet could increase the grooming time. Other factors out of our control include traffic, weather and mechanical difficulties. We always try to be on time but unexpected incidents do occur and should we be behind schedule by more than 30 minutes, we will always call to let you know we are running late.
How often should my dog be groomed? Veterinarians recommend that dogs be professionally groomed every 4 to 6 weeks. This also depends on the owner's ability to do daily brush outs, your pet's breed, coat and how often your dog/cat is outside. You may want your dog to be groomed on a tighter schedule to keep them from shedding indoors or if allergies in the home are present. Pets nails should be trimmed at least every four weeks, and ears cleaned every other week for overall health and comfort. We are currently taking recurring appointments on 4, 6, and 8 week schedules.
But doesn't frequent bathing dry out the skin and coat? No, veterinarians will encourage you to have your pet groomed on a regular basis. I use high quality shampoos and conditioners to help relieve dry, itchy skin. The luxury pet shampoo I use will not strip the dog's coat of its natural oils.
Why can't I watch while my pet is being groomed? Pets become very excited having their owners see them that they run the risk of being injured. Groomers use many sharp tools while styling and pets that move around on the grooming table are at a higher risk of being injured. DO NOT be offended if your groomer informs you that you or your children can not be in the van or standing outside the window. It is only done for the safety of your beloved pet. If you HAVE to come to the van for something please text first so as not to startle the pet or the groomer, causing injury to one or both. PLEASE never, ever open the door or bang on the bus while a pet is inside. This could result in the pet escaping or causing injury from being startled.
How come I get an answering machine when I call? Please be patient when calling. We do not pick up the phone while grooming dogs because it is unsafe to not be focused on them. Besides it can be very difficult to hear a conversation over the hum of the air conditioner, generator and/or dryer or vacuum. We also will not answer the phone while driving. Phone calls are returned Monday through Friday in the evening when all grooming has been completed. Text messaging will get a faster response as I can answer these between appointments or while pet is soaking in bah. We will do our best to answer all phone calls within 72hrs.
Do you accept after hour/weekend or emergency appointments? Yes for an extra fee of $100 plus grooming service fee. The $100 must be paid in advance as I will be giving up family time with my children.
What about cancellations or if I forget my appointment? Last minute cancellations and no call, no shows result in loss income. Cancellations require at least a 48 hour notice, failure to do so will result in a cancellation fee of $40 for each pet and this fee will need to be paid prior to your pet's next appointment. It is considered a "No Show" if the client is not available at the scheduled appointment time and does not contact us to cancel or reschedule. We reserve the right to charge the FULL grooming fee due to the loss of revenue caused by a "no show" appointment.
What happens when The Rolling Spaw needs to cancel an appointment? On rare occasions, we may need to cancel an appointment due to weather conditions, road conditions, equipment or van breakdowns or personal/family illness. we will make every effort to contact you in advance to reschedule your appointment.
Can I take a tour of your Spaw? Yes, we are more than happy to give our clients a tour. We are proud of our "spaw!" All grooming tools and surface areas are cleaned and sterilized after each use. We use disinfectants recommended by veterinarians that kill both bacteria and viruses.
